Is Universal Modder free?

Last updated: 2026-10-16

Yes — the toolkit itself is open source under the MIT license and free to use, including for commercial projects.

The optional AI asset generation (sprites, 3D models, sound, video) runs through fal, which is a separate paid service requiring a fal API key; the only no-API-key path is generating images from a local ComfyUI server with um comfy.

Details

Prerequisites are free tools: Git, Python 3.10+ and ffmpeg (uv is the recommended installer); Blender is needed only for the 3D-to-sprite render command.
